Raising News
When it comes to fundraising at an independent school, we are
very aware of the economy and the financial choices (and sometimes
sacrifices) people make for their children to come to Eagle Cove
School (formerly GICS).
It’s your choice to be here that builds a school community. As
you may or may not know, tuition only covers a portion of the yearly
expenses at any private school, and fundraising becomes a valuable
and necessary activity.
Knowing that, we have tried to design fundraising this year in a
way that can accommodate many. There are many ways to financially
support Eagle Cove School:
1. By Shopping Locally:
We have several local stores/retailers lined up where ECS (formerly GICS) benefits
by getting a percentage of your shopping dollars. No matter what,
you have shopping that needs to be done…so by shopping at some of
the ECS-affiliated stores, you automatically support ECS without
any additional effort. With many of these stores, you do
need to sign up to designate ECS as your benefactor, so please
take a moment to read the attached details for each store. This way
you can make your shopping dollars go to work for the school!
2. By Eating Locally: Let’s face it--you have
to eat…so hopefully you can take advantage of some of our Ledo’s
Pizza Nights. Generally speaking, they are the first Tuesday of each
month from October 2009 to June 2010, with the exception being this
September. Please mark these dates on your calendar. Then on these
designated nights, go to Ledo’s to either dine in or carry out
between 5:00 and 9:00 pm. Part of the proceeds will go to ECS ,
but you must mention ECS at check out.
2009—2010 Eagle Cove School/GICS Ledo’s Pizza Nights:
| Tues., Sept. 8 |
Tues., Jan. 5 |
Tues., May 4 |
| Tues., Oct. 6 |
Tues., Feb. 2 |
Tues., June 1 |
| Tues., Nov. 2 |
Tues., Mar. 2 |
 |
| Tues, Dec. 1 |
Tues., Apr. 6 |
3. By Attending PA Events: Everyone wants to have
fun, so please join us in doing so! The PA has some extraordinary
events ahead—some full of family fun, some designed to inspire
adult-only evenings. Some of our major fundraising events this year
include the following:
September - May Lunches Program
A twice-weekly fundraising event in which a lunch is
purchased from a local restaurant and delivered to the school
for your child on Wednesdays and Fridays. Proceeds provide funds
for the PA budget, assemblies, and the 5th Grade's special
activities.
Sept 25 Golf Tournament
This yearly event, held at the Gibson Island Country
Club is a fun-filled day for golf enthusiasts.
Oct 17 FallFest
11:00 am to 3:00 pm. This event is a highlight of each
school year! Current and past families & the community are
cordially invited to this family-friendly event.
Dec 1-4 Book Fair
This 4-day event benefits the school library while
adding wonderful reading materials to our families' homes.
Feb 7 Apr 11 Art Show
Local artisans set up their amazing works on campus for
an afternoon of mingling, music, and mixed media.
May 22 Eagle Cove School/GICS Luau
Held on campus, the night includes both live music
and a silent auction, great food--a fun evening out for adults.
4. By Participating in our 3 major PA Fundraising Campaigns:
This year we are partnering up multiple fundraisers simultaneously
to expand your shopping options. We realize that one size does not
always fit all! Fundraising Packets will go home in the fall and
spring to showcase those seasonal options, directions, & deadlines.
In this way, we won’t be having fundraising every time you turn
around! (Please note: “Jump Rope For Heart” in February is a
charitable fundraiser and these funds do not go to benefit ECS but
rather the American Heart Association.)
Our Parents’ Association Fundraising Campaigns will be as
follows:
| Fall: |
Believe Kids, TerraCycle, and Bulk Mulch (September 2009)
|
| Winter: |
Scholastic Book Fair & the sale of ECS/GICS student-created
Environmental Calendars (December 1--4, 2009)
|
| Spring: |
Spring Mulch, Tuition Raffle & others (TBA) (March/April
2010) |
At Eagle Cove School, it is never expected that any
parent attends every event nor takes part in every fundraising sale.
Volunteering is a huge way to help out, and we hope that you will
take part in the events/fundraisers that are interesting to you or
serve your needs. We appreciate any and all support you give our
school, and without you, we wouldn’t be “us!”
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mrs.
Dabrowka at
ThirdGrade@gics.org
We look forward to a great year ahead!

Here is a listing of all our current big and ongoing programs to
raise money for the school. Thank you in advance for giving to ECS/GICS.
Every cent that we earn goes directly to our children.

Believe Kids: This year we are going to take a break from
Sally Foster and go with a similar company called Believe Kids.
We feel this company has more variety and will have a wider appeal
than Sally Foster. Sale dates are September 12th—September 29th.
More information will follow on this new and exciting fundraiser
with built-in individual and classroom incentives. This serves as a
great opportunity to purchase some early holiday gifts! Delivery
will be approximately 4-5 weeks after our final close date deadline.
We will also be running a bulk mulch fundraiser and a TerraCycle
Fundraiser simultaneously with these dates! (TerraCycle is the
company we send our collect juice pouches--they make treasures out
of our recyclable items.)

Safeway: ECS/GICS receives 3% of your total purchase while simply
shopping for groceries. You MUST use your Safeway card when
shopping in order to receive credit for your purchase (rather than
merely your phone number).
To enroll or renew, please email the following information to me
at thirdgrade@gics.org:
First & Last Name………Address………City, State, Zip
Your Safeway Club Card Number
OR call 1-800-801-4973 OR visit
www.escrip.com and click YES!
RENEW
You must renew by November 1st for uninterrupted
contributions. Encourage everyone you know to participate too.
Gather their Safeway information, email it to me, and I’ll help you
get set up!
Lauer’s:
No sign-up necessary, just mention ECS/GICS at checkout and 3% of
your purchase will be applied to our account. Their program starts
in September and runs through the spring.

Box Tops for Education: Clip Box Tops for Education coupons from
hundreds of products found throughout your local grocery store. See
www.boxtops4education.com for a complete listing of
participating products. Each Box Top is worth 10 cents to our
school. It’s never too early to start clipping! Keep a baggy on your
fridge to remind you to collect them , & periodically send them in.
No need to clip them too precisely--third graders would be happy to
help out in that department once they come in!
Office Depot: As part of Office Depot’s 5% Back to
Schools Program, ECS/GICS will be credited a percentage of your
purchases. Not every item they sell qualifies, but most school
supply items do. (For example, technology, furniture, and gift cards
are some of the things that do not qualify). Mention ECS/GICS
or our code 70047125 at the register (or use the code when
shopping online at
www.officedepot.com) – the cashiers may not ask, so don’t forget
to bring it up! This program runs year round.
Lands End: We participate in the Lands’ End school
uniform program. Lands’ End will send 3% of all school clothing
sales proceeds back to ECS/GICS! School clothing can be ordered online
at
www.LandsEnd.com/school or by calling 1-800-469-2222. The
ECS/GICS school code for the 3% credit is 900095183.

Target: You can sign up for the Take Charge of Education
program by calling 1-800-316-6142 or by visiting
www.target.com
-- click on “REDcards,” then “Take Charge of Education.”
Click “Enroll” to register your card and designate ECS/GICS.
Target will donate an amount equal to 1% of your Target REDcard or
Target Visa purchases at any Target store and
www.target.com,
and ½% of your Target Visa purchases everywhere else you use your
Target Visa. This program runs year round.

Verizon: Use these 3 steps for Verizon to donate different
amounts when you order certain Verizon products by phone:
1. Call 1-888-695-5299. (Orders placed online or through
another number will not qualify.)
| New Residential
Products Only |
Verizon Donation |
| Verizon FIOS Internet or Verizon High Speed Internet |
$25 |
| Verizon FIOS TV or DIRECTV |
$20 |
| Phone (Verizon Freedom Calling, Verizon Long Distance,
or Additional Line) |
$10 |
| Verizon FIOS Triple Freedom |
$65 |
2. Say “Yes” to first prompt.
3. Give the ECS/GICS code 13294 to the Verizon representative.
Share this information with friends and family in DC, VA, MD, and WV
so their new order will also benefit ECS/GICS.

Combined Federal Campaign of Central Maryland
One way of providing financial support to ECS/GICS is through the
Combined Federal Campaign of Central Maryland. If you are a Federal
Employee, you can name ECS/GICS as a recipient through payroll
deductions. We are listed in their contributor's guide; our CFC
number is 3056.

Giant Food: Starting October 9, 2009 through March 25, 2010,
ECS/GICS will have the opportunity to earn cash through Giant’s A+
BonusBucksSM Program. All you have to do is fill out the
accompanying Designation Card, then return it to school via Backpack
Express to the office.
OR Drop it off at any Giant store
OR Log on to
www.giantfood.com/aplus to designate on-line
OR Dial 1-877-366-2668
to designate over the phone
Card designations are taken any time after August 28th, 2009. After
you designate our school, each shopping trip at Giant using your
BonusCard earns CASH for our school! Each month, the amount of
CASH awarded will be updated on the Giant website. Our school
will receive a check at the end of the program.
Even if you designated last year, you must re-designate this
year for our school to receive credit. Attending to this simple
process makes a HUGE difference to our school. Please be sure to
designate Eagle Cove School using ID #01046 on the
Designation Card.
Also, don’t forget to encourage your friends and relatives to do the
same.
Thank you very much for your support!
