PA
Committees Current PA Committees are listed below,
and as you can see, we are very active in our children's lives here
at school. And, we can always use help!
If you'd like to know more about any of these committees, please
call the school at 410-255-5370 and we can direct you to the best
person to answer your questions.
Auction
The
Auction Committee is the guiding force behind the bi-annual GICS
Auction. They plan the theme, take care of invitations and
decorations, coordinate donations, recruit help, and happily deal
with the myriad details involved in making Auction Night a wonderful
night. This event is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, 2009 at the
Gibson Island Club.

Book Fair
The
Book Fair Committee is in charge of running the school's annual Book
Fair, traditionally held in early December. Helpers on this
committee set up the gym the day before the Book Fair and assist
students with book selections.
In conjunction with the Book Fair, parents also arrange for local
authors and/or illustrators to visit the school and talk to the
students about their careers.
Proceeds from this fundraiser benefit the school library. This
year's Book Fair is scheduled for December 8-10, 2008.

Community Service
This goal of this committee is to develop our students' awareness
of the great needs of others within our community. In coordination
with local service organizations, we provide opportunities for our
students to enhance these organizations' charitable works. Sample
activities include sandwich making for the homeless, a Holiday
Giving Tree, coat drive, food drive, Easter baskets for needy
children, and nursing home visits.

Fund Raising
All
schools profit from extra income and the Fund Raising Committee
selects, coordinates and runs a variety of activities that raise
additional funds for the school. Typical fundraisers include the
sale of gift wrap, organizing school nights at participating area
restaurants, registering in the local merchant school fundraising
programs, and collecting Box-tops for education.
Golf Tournament

This committee organizes this event that consists of a casual day
of golfing and lunch at the Gibson Island Club. It provides a great
opportunity to involve the business community, families and friends
from outside the GICS family. The golf tournament is held the fourth
or fifth Friday in October.

Homeroom Representatives
There is a homeroom representative for each class. This person
coordinates activities with the homeroom teacher (such as holiday
parties and field trips). One attends the monthly PA meetings and
relays information from the meetings to the class parents. You also
coordinate the class telephone tree.

committee organizes the food and refreshments for many different
events during the year. These events include Grandparents and
Special Friends Day, Field Day and any other special occasion.

Kitchen
The
people on this committee assure cleanliness and organization of the
PA kitchen. This generally involves coming in once a month to make
sure that items are stored in their proper areas, checking the
refrigerator, etc.

Lunch Program
This
committee organizes the monthly Lunch program days. Lunches are
purchased from local restaurants and delivered to students in their
classrooms. Help is always welcome for these events, whether it be
coordinating the orders, picking up the food, or distributing it to
the students. Proceeds from this program purchase books for the
classroom, sponsor the Friday assemblies and support the 5th Grade
fieldtrip.

MarketFest
Our
MarketFest is an annual fall fundraising event held the third
Saturday in October at the school. This fun filled day consists of
crafts, games, activities, and great food. This is the largest
committee in the school, and there are frequent planning meetings
prior to the event. A successful event requires assistance from many
volunteers.

PA Bulletin
The Parents Association bulletin is a quarterly newsletter that
reports past, current and future activities and events occurring at
the school.

School Performances
The School Performances committee
performs a most valuable service to the school by collecting a variety of
clothing articles and adapting, altering, fitting and generally performing
magic with them to enhance the school's plays, music programs, class
skits, and performances. The committee gladly accepts donations of
costumes, materials or anything that can be useful for our productions.

gifts.

Used Uniforms

GICS maintains a collection of used uniforms that are offered in
lieu of a donation to our families. The committee collects and
organizes the uniforms and displays the used uniforms at designated
times. In addition to the designated displayed times, used uniforms
may be purchased by contacting the school at 410-255-5370.
