School Closing Policies:
Inclement Weather / Emergencies
First Day of a Weather Emergency
Before the school day begins:
- In case of inclement
weather, GICS follows the Anne Arundel County Public School's
closing policy for the first day of a weather emergency.
- After
that first day, the Head makes closing decisions on a day-by-day
basis.
- Parents can see closings or delayed opening announcements on WBAL
TV, Channel 11. Information about closings or delayed openings
is also posted on this website (www.gics.org)
and on WBAL's
website.
After the school day has begun:
- GICS does not follow AA County's decisions regarding
early closings due to weather.
- Once the school day has begun, the Head makes any
decision about a change to the dismissal time.
- If there is a change to the dismissal time, this will be
communicated via our website and by telephone.
- Parents of bus
riders will be phoned with the bus decision.
Subsequent Days of a Weather Emergency
- Again, GICS only follows the AA County School closings for
the first day of a weather emergency. After that first
day, the Head makes closing decisions on a day-by-day basis.
- Watch WBAL
TV, Channel 11 or check this website (www.gics.org)
or WBAL's
website for information about changes to the school day.
Pre-K and After School Care
- Pre-K: We do not cancel morning Pre-K in the case of a delayed opening.
- After School Care: There is NO After
School Care if GICS is closed early for
weather, unless you are notified to the contrary.
Heat and Other Situations:
GICS does not close because of heat but could close because of
loss of water or electricity.
