Bibliography Format

A bibliography is a list of resources such as books and articles that were used when writing a research report.  It gives enough information about each source so that that particular source can be located if someone wanted more information or needed to verify any facts.

Overview:  When creating a Bibliography

  • Information must be complete and follow rules for order, punctuation, and spacing.
  • The final list is in alphabetical order, beginning with the first entry; this final list combines all the materials used, no matter what kind of materials they are
  • Indent the second line if the information is longer than one line.
  • Publisher's city is always spelled out (e.g. New York)
  • If the Publisher's city is not well-known, list the state as well (e.g. Morristown, NJ)
