Fire at the School, February 16,
2010
Eagle Cove School, formerly known as Gibson Island Country School,
at 5191 Mountain Road, Pasadena, Maryland had a fire Tuesday morning
at approximately 5:30 am. Firefighters responded and put out a fire
on the roof of the North Building, a classroom building. The cause
of the blaze has yet to be determined. One classroom had significant
fire damage and everything inside the classroom was incinerated.
Damage assessment and repair are underway already. The school will
be open and operating Wednesday; however, ECS will observe the two
hour delay as announced for the county public schools.
Eagle Cove School serves students in grades Pre-K through grade 5.
It was founded in 1956. Its mission reads as follows: “Eagle Cove
School is a family of students, educators and parents dedicated to
making each child’s early academic experience challenging and
joyful. The School provides an environment of trust, tradition, and
intellectual discovery. It is our mission to maintain a culture of
academic excellence as we foster within students respect,
responsibility, joy in lifelong learning and habits of environmental
and community stewardship.”
