Eagle Cove School, formerly known as Gibson Island Country School, at 5191 Mountain Road, Pasadena, Maryland had a fire Tuesday morning at approximately 5:30 am. Firefighters responded and put out a fire on the roof of the North Building, a classroom building. The cause of the blaze has yet to be determined. One classroom had significant fire damage and everything inside the classroom was incinerated. Damage assessment and repair are underway already. The school will be open and operating Wednesday; however, ECS will observe the two hour delay as announced for the county public schools.

Eagle Cove School serves students in grades Pre-K through grade 5. It was founded in 1956. Its mission reads as follows: “Eagle Cove School is a family of students, educators and parents dedicated to making each child’s early academic experience challenging and joyful. The School provides an environment of trust, tradition, and intellectual discovery. It is our mission to maintain a culture of academic excellence as we foster within students respect, responsibility, joy in lifelong learning and habits of environmental and community stewardship.”
